American Quarter Horses are promoted by a number of clubs and associations worldwide. The American Quarter Horse Association is definitely one of the most influential ones in the field of breeding, training, and promoting American Quarter Horses. This organization was formed in 1940 to preserve the breed that could end up broken due to a rapid railroad construction. Fearing engines could replace the horse, breeders formed a special organization that registered horses and helped to preserve the working qualities of the American Quarter Horse.
Nowadays, the American Quarter Horse Association unites about 300,000 members. The association has about 4 million registered horses. It educates breeders and buyers of horse characteristics and breed peculiarities. Besides, the American Quarter Horse Association is instrumental in organizing racing events, shows, and recreation activities for children.
It is believed that raising enthusiasts in horse racing will guarantee stable future for the American Quarter Horse. Therefore, children take part in specially organized events and acquire necessary education.
The American Quarter Horse is popular not only in the United States. Despite the fact that the largest number of these horses is found probably in the United States, the breed is loved in other countries too. Quarter Horses - Quarter Horses are remarkably strong and enduring species of horses. Once used in quarter-mile racing competitions, they have developed a sturdy and muscular body with powerful legs. That allows them to cover long distances without getting tired too soon. The breed is a product of crosses with a few other breeds.
English colonists, who were ardent short distance racers, brought the first ancestors of the Quarter Horse to America in the 1600s. They arranged competitive down-the-street races and the fastest species became breeding stock for future competitions and referred to as Celebrated American Quarter Running Horses. In 1940, the breed received an official status and the American Quarter Horse became registered.
